Endangered Chickens

David Parker of my local Facebook Chicken Group suggested that each month I hatch a chicken breed that is on the Livestock Conservatory Endangered List. And while I love this idea, I can’t afford to carry the birds if no one is interested. But I do like the idea of encouraging others to establish flocks of these rare breeds, for once they are gone, they are Gone.

So, here is what I offer. If you acquire hatching eggs for any of the birds on this Endangered List, I will hatch them for you at no charge and you take all the chicks. Here is the list — the links take you to the Livestock Conservatory page.:

Campine

Crèvecoeur

Holland

La Fleche

Malay

Modern Game

Nankin

Redcap

Spanish

Sultan

Yokohama

I hatch in Brinsea Ovation Exs and have fabulous hatch rates of fertile eggs. My 2020 numbers are 77.7% fertility and 77.1% hatch rates and that includes the first half of the year with lesser incubators. This year’s numbers will be higher as I am 100% Brinsea now.

In addition, once you have an established flock, or if you already have an established flock, if you send me images and content, I will post and promote a blog post for your hatching eggs, chicks, or birds once a quarter. I have a rather large reach now (surprised me too!) and would be happy to use it to support you in breed preservation.
